The botanological department of the Museum has a collection of significant number of flora specimens from Samos and the Aegean in the form of a Herbarium. It was created and is supervised by Prof. K. Dim. Christodoulakis of the University of Patras and it is under his supervision.
The uncultivated flora of Samos includes approximately 1250 specimens of angiofyta among which dikotylons are dominant. This large number of samples is due to the geo-history, geo-morphology and geographical position of the island.
Around 305 of the flora specimens appeared on the island due to human activities and 15% of them due to the natural dispersion by birds, sea currents and the wind.
